Future of Walworth Town Hall

On Tuesday 5th April 2016, the Walworth Society will host a public meeting about the future of the Walworth Town Hall and Newington Library.

The Walworth Society is hosting a public meeting on Tuesday 5th April 2016, to discuss the future of the Walworth Town Hall and Newington Library.

Back in February this year, Cllr Peter John was, allegedly, wondering if saving the town hall was 'value for money'. The meeting on Tuesday may be a good opportunity to question him as well as other council representatives (Cllr Mark Williams, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and New Homes and Ms. Eleanor Kelly, Chief Executive of Southwark Council, have also been confirmed to speak).

Issues for discussion at the meeting will include:

  • Detail on the reasons for the sharp rise in the costs of the project.
  • Detail on the implications/consequences of each of the three options that Southwark Council have been proposing in the consultation on the redevelopment.
  • What the options mean for Walworth as a place.
  • How a decision will be made and how the project will be taken forward by Southwark Council.

The meeting is to take place at Inspire, St Peter's Church, Liverpool Grove SE17 2HH, from 19:00 on Tuesday 5th April 2016. Everyone is welcome to attend.
